founder's note.

nearly a decade building consumer brands, and a lifetime putting outfits together. damoya is the first time the two have been the same job!

the first wardrobe i paid real attention to was my mother's. she had one indo-western kurta set she wore to everything that mattered, and i remember her laughing more in it. i was seven, i couldn't have told you why. then her body changed and the shops quietly stopped. the things she liked stopped coming in her size, the things in her size stopped being things she liked. i filed it under things that happen to mothers.

then it happened to me. an xs became a medium in about a year, and the brands i'd loved since college turned out to have opinions about that. some things stopped fitting. others fit perfectly well, provided I was happy to look like someone i wasn’t.

i'd stand at my wardrobe on an unremarkable tuesday and find nothing that was mine. too much for lunch, not enough for dinner, never right for the hours in between.

so i built the middle. clothes for the day that starts at a desk and ends somewhere else.

none of it alone, the women in my life saw to that. this is theirs too.
